Fix print quality on the HP 9730.
The Print Quality Diagnostic Report tells you whether to align or clean the printhead.
Steps
- Check ink levels and that the paper type and quality settings match the paper.
- Print the Print Quality Diagnostic Report (on the Home screen tap Menu, scroll to Utilities and tap Tools → Reports → Status Reports).
- Lines not straight: align the printhead. White lines across color blocks: clean the printhead. Ink smears on the back: clean the smear.
- Load plain white letter, A4 or legal paper, then on the Home screen tap Menu, scroll to Utilities and tap Tools → Troubleshooting → Print Quality and pick the fix.

- Always switch off with the Power button so the cartridges get capped.
