Setup guide

HP OfficeJet Pro 9730 setup: everything is in the box.

Our 9730 printers are brand new and factory sealed. HP’s power cord, setup ink cartridges and setup guide are inside.

First-time setup

  1. Unbox the printer and remove all tape and packing material.
  2. Plug in the power cord and turn it on.
  3. Follow HP’s setup guide from the box to fit the setup ink and load paper.
  4. Connect to Wi-Fi from the touchscreen, or use the free HP Smart app (iOS, Android, desktop) for guided setup and drivers.
  5. Print a test page.

When the setup ink runs out

It takes HP 936 or 936XL cartridges. A compatible 936XL 4-pack with the chip fitted costs $80, rated by the seller at 7,450 pages. HP’s firmware updates can block cartridges with a non-HP chip, so turn off automatic firmware updates before fitting them. Original HP 936 cartridges always work. 936XL ink →

Wi-Fi will not connect?

Use HP Smart for guided setup, keep the printer near the router during setup and restart the router if the network does not show. Choose a 2.4 GHz network if you are given the choice.
